Ultimate Bean Dip

Ultimate Bean Dip really is the ultimate go-to party or game day dip, made with savory refried beans, cream cheese, spicy salsa, shredded cheddar, and taco seasoning.

It takes almost no time at all to make, and I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t like it. It’s creamy and cheesy, and goes perfectly served with tortilla chips or on top of a tray of nachos with a big dollop of sour cream.

I like to garnish my bean dip recipe with chopped green onions, chives, or cilantro because it adds a really nice pop of color to the brown dip.

This dip will take you a total time of five minutes to throw together, but I’ve also prepped this the day before because it was one less thing to do on the day of.

If you want a spicier dip, stir in 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and top with sliced jalapenos. I promise you will never want to go back to store bought dip again!

CAN YOU MAKE BEAN DIP AHEAD?

I’ve made this dip the day before many times and have never had an issue. Just seal it tightly and refrigerate until you’re ready. Then warm it back up on the stove for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, before serving.

HOW TO STORE BEAN DIP

Bean dip should be sealed in an airtight container and refrigerated for 3-4 days.

CAN THIS BEAN DIP RECIPE BE FROZEN?

This dip can definitely be frozen, just wrap tightly and freeze for 2-3 months. Defrost in the refrigerator a few hours before you’re ready to serve, or heat it up on the stove or in the microwave and stir before serving. Serve with fresh tortilla chips.

HOW TO MAKE BEAN DIP IN THE SLOW COOKER

Add everything to the slow cooker and stir together. Cook on low for 2-3 hours, or until cheese is melted and dip is hot. Stir, then top with extra shredded cheese and serve.

TIPS FOR MAKING BEAN DIP

  • Sub the refried beans for pureed white beans to make a white bean dip recipe.
  • Use this as one of the layers in a seven layer bean dip.
  • Add cayenne pepper, diced jalapenos, or hot salsa to make this dip more spicy. Top with pickled jalapeno slices.
  • If you don’t have taco seasoning, add a 1/2 teaspoon of cumin, chili powder, and paprika. Any traditional Tex-Mex flavors will work well.
  • Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice to brighten up the flavor of this dip.
  • Add an even deeper flavor by sautéing chopped onion and garlic with a tablespoon of olive oil for 3-4 minutes, then adding in all other ingredients and stirring together.
  • To cut some of the calories, use Neufchatel cheese instead of cream cheese, and low fat refried beans and cheese.
  • If you don’t have cream cheese, substitute with sour cream. Keep in mind that your dip won’t be quite as thick with this substitution.
