If you were reading along about a month ago I first posted about my love for Foster Farms Chicken in my One Pot Rosemary Chicken and Fall Vegetables recipe. I am a pretty straight forward person, so when I chose to write a sponsored post for Foster Farms it was because I genuinely have eaten their chicken my entire life.

As the weather cools down and it gets darker sooner we have moved the kids’ bedtimes up a bit (woohoo for more adult time!) and since that means I have to get dinner on the table sooner I have started looking for quicker meals and meals I can pull straight from the freezer.

Since the kids both ate at the zoo today and were not hungry, we got to go spicy. Since the chicken comes in a re-sealable bag, we could make enough for just us and keep the rest frozen. I heated up my pan screaming hot (ok maybe just on high) and added the frozen chicken to the pan.

Just under ten minutes later with nothing more than a hint of chili paste and some sesame oil I had this beautiful pan of chicken waiting to be eaten.

The “recipe” here is more of a method than anything else since the pre-marinated chicken already has so much flavor. I cooked it in sesame oil and just before it was done I added a couple of teaspoons of chili paste to the chicken. Piled on top of a bowl of sticky white rice and some wilted cabbage and carrots, this chicken is topped with some hoisin sauce for a perfect bowl meal. Best part is, for the 3/4 pound of chicken (we made half the bag), I used only needed 2 teaspoons of oil, so it is also incredibly healthy!

Tip: I almost never cook rice when I am making dinner anymore unless it is a flavored rice for a dish (even then I have a rotation I use so I normally have backups in the deep freeze). For this dinner I grabbed a packet of steamed short grain sushi rice out of my deep freeze for a quick base. Equally delicious would’ve been the Perfect Brown Rice, Every Time or Light Coconut Rice. If you cook rice for this meal you will have to start the rice before prepping the chicken, since it cooks so quickly if you start them at the same time the chicken will cool significantly by the time the rice is done.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken breast (Foster Farms Sauté Ready Asian Chicken)
  • 4 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons chili garlic paste
  • 1 bag finely sliced cabbage
  • 2 carrots , julienned
  • 6 cups rice (I used sticky short grain Japanese rice)
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds , for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add the carrots and cabbage to a glass bowl and cover with wet paper towel.
  2. Microwave for 3-4 minutes to wilt the cabbage.

  3. If you prefer not to use the microwave you can add to a steam basket or you can sauté (but this would require a bit of oil to prevent the cabbage from burning).
  4. Warm up or cook the rice.
  5. Using a large skillet, heat the pan on high.
  6. Add the sesame oil and half the bag of the Foster Farms Sauté Ready Asian Chicken.
  7. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, then toss with the chili garlic paste.

  8. Warm the hoisin sauce for 10-15 second in the microwave with a wet paper towel on top of the bowl.

  9. Serve with rice on the bottom of the bowl, then the wilted cabbage and chicken. Add the hoisin sauce on top of the chicken and the sesame seeds as a garnish

    1. Thanks Emily! You can tone the spice down by not adding the chili paste and he can add it to his bowl. The marinaded chicken itself is not spicy 🙂

    1. You could always leave the chili garlic paste out and just add some sriracha on top of each individual plate who likes it spicy. 🙂
