Tossed in a homemade honey mustard, these Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken Wings will be the hit of your game day party.
In case the appetizer/gameday recipes haven’t been enough of a giveaway that I love a good game day party, here are some awesome Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken Wings to round out your party table! In addition to my Baked Sticky Asian Chicken Wings these wings are part of an amazing spread your guests will love. Chicken wings make a perfect appetizer because they’re only a couple of bites, and it’s easy to make multiple flavors just by splitting the wings and tossing each with a different pile.
These Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken Wings use a fantastic honey mustard bbq sauce that takes just a few ingredients. The flavors are reminiscent of the KFC Honey BBQ chicken wings which is also great since those wings were the best thing on the menu. As a kid if we were getting fried chicken from a restaurant it was always Pioneer Chicken (I cannot stress to you enough how awesome Pioneer Chicken was), so I never really used to eat KFC’s normal fried chicken. One day when my parents were out for the evening and I went out with my brother to get some food he drove us to KFC and ordered these wings. To be honest when he ordered them I thought they sounded gross, but when I tasted them I totally got it. The sauce is sweet and tangy and the wings were crunchy and awesome. I had been so used to normal hot wings I never considered a sweet version!
The best part is this sauce is as easy as it is delicious. If you are looking for easy variations of a sweet and savory hot wing, you can replace the honey and the mustard with other ingredients such as a jam/jelly (I’m thinking orange marmalade or like a pineapple jelly) or a minced jarred jalapeno. Another great option would be jalapeno jelly (I totally LOVE jalapeno jelly) mixed with bbq sauce. The sweet options are pretty open, and since you are tossing the wings in a thick sauce you don’t need a dipping sauce to add to the mix.
These Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken Wings are also fried, unlike the Baked Sticky Asian Chicken Wings. If you would prefer to bake your chicken wings, the directions on the the Asian Chicken Wings dish would work perfectly. If you bake them you can also disregard the tossing in flour in favor of possibly just tossing with a small amount of cornstarch. I can’t really say one way is really better than the other when it comes to cooking them, the oven method is definitely easier, less cleanup and healthier. The frying method is crispier, juicier and a more classic option.
Either way, have a bowl of these Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken Wings at your next party. Then come back and tell me if you loved them, I love hearing feedback from you guys!
PS. if you used to loved KFC Honey BBQ wings as a kid and want them to come back there is a Facebook group that popped up petitioning them to bring the wings back. Gotta love petitions for bringing food back. I’m still waiting for Keebler to bring back those awesome Pizzeria chips!
