It has been a while since I’ve posted a copycat recipe here. I know there was a wave of copycat recipes we were riding there a little while ago but with the holiday season my mind has wandered to the flavors of the season. Pumpkin has been a huge flavor of the month and with Halloween around the corner my mind has been focused on desserts. This dessert is a nice departure from all the pumpkin and candy.

This recipe also benefits from using a similar dough to the Pizzeria Garlic Knots I recently posted. The differences are the oil used in the dough (olive oil would be too strong a flavor for this recipe) and way it is baked. With the pizza knots we cut the dough into strips and make them into knots, but here we leave it in one piece. You could, if you weren’t looking to mimic the Domino’s recipe actually make these into knots too, they would still be absolutely delicious that way!

The original Cinnastix are basically a half a pizza dough brushed with a butter substitute, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, then baked. This recipe makes a full tray full of slices and is made with all natural ingredients and actual butter. Something else to consider is these won’t even cost you a dollar. Okay, okay maybe for the whole batch *which is twice what you would get at Dominos* this recipe may cost a dollar. That is less than you would tip your delivery guy (at least I hope it is less!).

The great thing about this dough, that I mentioned last week too, is that you don’t have to take the extra time to let it rise. If you have a bit of extra time to let it sit it will be slightly chewier and more flavorful, but the beauty of this dough is that it doesn’t need the extra time. We also add the cinnamon sugar in two parts to the dough, half before baking and half after. This makes for a nice crunch on the dough where the sugar caramelized in the oven and has a soft coating of fresh cinnamon sugar for after that will leave a nice cinnamon sugar lipstick on you with each bite!

So pull out the stand mixer, give yourself just a few extra minutes and save the cash you would be spending ordering out!

  1. hi!! so i just tried the recipe and honestly the dough recipe is AMAZING !! and the dough was easy to kned and work with but the icing is not the best, im not sure if my powdered sugar was old or what but the icing was wayyyyyy to sugary i ended up not using it but the actual cinnamon dough stix are great by them self too other than that amazing recipe !!!

  2. Love this great sauce dominoes recipe. Looks so awesome and delicious, I really like it. Thank you for sharing this wonderful post.

  3. I had some leftover pizza dough and needed to use it up. It wasn’t enough for another pizza so I decided to make this. My dough was obviously fully prepped for a pizza so it’s been kneaded. (Kned? lol)
My problem is my stix were chewy and I’m thinking it’s because the temp on the oven was so low. We cook pizzas at 450-500. The cinnastix should also be cooked at that temp, so next time I will do that and post back to see how they come out.
I loved this recipe anyway so I’m giving it 5 stars! It was super easy to make (mostly because I had leftover dough) 15 min. from start to finish. Will def. be making again.
(I have a breadmaker so pizza dough takes 90 minutes. )

  4. Tried your Easy Mongolian Beef the other night and hubby was blown away by how good it was. So I have been scouring your site and bookmarking new recipes to try and came across this one that sounds divine but I think there may be some steps missing between #3 and 4.

    1. So glad you are loving the site!
To clear up any confusion, there aren’t any steps missing. This recipe is super easy and you basically mix the dry, add the wet and roll it into the rectangle. No need to let the dough rise for it. Hope this helps!

  5. Hi!! I have a question about the dough. I made it but it didn’t bake the way I wanted it to. it tastes very weird and I think the dough was a bit thick when I cut it… Is there a specific way to cut the bread so that It bakes nicer???

  6. Icing needs a lot of work. Followed the recipe exactly and this is why I only have it a 3 star. Any tips? Icing gets hard after adding the correct amount of milk and ends up tasting like cardboard.

    1. The icing will harden up after sitting for a bit (Domino’s does the same) so if you warm it up a little, it should soften back up.

    2. how old is the powdered sugar? Older sugar will taste funky. It’s still good, but just has an “old” taste to it.

  7. I just wanted to ask about the powdered sugar? It says 4 cups and i have a feeling that its incorrect since in my shops they only sell packets of powdered sugar that wont even be able to fill up 2 cups. maybe you meant 1/4 cup?

    1. 4 cups is the correct amount for the dipping sauce. 1/4 cup won’t give you enough dipping sauce for your sticks.

  8. I’m so glad I found this recipe. I live in the uk & ordered cinnastix (new over here) omg I’m addicted to them!. Can’t wait to give this recipe a try!.

  9. How long do you let the dough rest/rise before rolling out into a rectangle? I imagine that you do let it rise before baking, correct?

    1. Not very long at all, 15-20 minutes? I use the no rise dough so it isn’t too long of a process. If you want to give it more rising time it will only be better, sometimes I let it rise for 30-40 mins if I am working on other parts of the meal. But really, it’ll be pretty delicious if you just make it immediately.
