Chick-fil-A Sauce is an easy dipping sauce is slightly smoky with a hint of honey mustard that is perfect for dipping waffle fries, nuggets and more.
Chick-fil-A Sauce is a recipe that was actually pretty easy to find a copycat recipe for. I found the version I worked off of from Copykat Recipes and did a bit of tweaking to the ingredients. Since almost all the recipes online are the same group of ingredients I think we’re all pretty close to the same flavors, but I found that the actual sauce was a bit smokier than the recipe made.If you’re having trouble getting that smoke flavor you can add a small splash of liquid smoke (if there was a way to do a pinch of a liquid thats literally how small of an amount I mean).
Then you can enjoy this dipping sauce with your favorite Chick-fil-A Nuggets and Chick-Fil-A Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Lemonade.
What kind of sauce does Chick Fil A have? They actually have seven different dipping sauces but the Chick-fil-A Sauce and the Polynesian Sauce are my two favorites (and their most popular). Chick-fil-A Polynesian Sauce is a slightly muted sweet and sour sauce, not like a Chinese takeout place, but more like the packets of sweet and sour that are tangier and darker in color.
What does Chick-fil-A Sauce taste like? Like a mixture or honey mustard, barbecue sauce and mayonnaise mixed with a bit of smoke and yellow mustard. Its a tangier honey mustard creamy bbq sauce.
If you’re looking for another fry sauce, I also have a copycat In-n-Out Spread Sauce which is a spot on copy!
Tools Used in the making of this Chick-fil-A Sauce:
Barbecue Sauce: I find this flavor to be pretty close, if you want smokier, I’d suggest this smoky flavored sauce or using a bit of liquid smoke.
Dijon Mustard: Great, more muted flavor that works well in sauces and for cooking (especially with pork).
Honey: The best deal on honey you’re going to find online that you know for sure is real honey, only $4 a pound. Or buy it in the store for even less!
Chick-fil-A Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce I use Sweet Baby Ray's
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
Instructions
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow flavors to come together.
If your sauce doesn’t have that hint of smoke (in case your bbq sauce is sweeter rather than smoky) use a splash of liquid smoke.
it tasted very good and very realistic i approve and so does every one in a 10 mile radius
Thanks Jacob!
i didnt try it but its so good
Amazing I love chick fil a sauce and I just made some
My mom is a VERY picky person. She likes what she likes. One of those things is Chick Fil A….esp. this sauce. I made it today and she was blown away. ive been into the copycat recipe thing for a few years, but she was super skeptical. she said “Bravo!”.
Yay!!
This was very good! It wasn’t a super thick sauce so I wonder if adding cornstarch would help thicken it. I added more mayo to thicken but that didn’t help. Everyone loved it though so that’s a good thing.
mqke it the day before and let it set up in the fridge over night it will be much thicker the next day.
Yum! We love CFA, this was a great and super easy sub. My kids and husband all agreed too 🙂
Thanks for the 5 stars Rachel.
I made this recipe and found that it was delicious! The only thing I would add is that if yours turns out watery at first like mine did you may want to add a small amount more of mayonnaise and a small amount more of yellow mustard. Delicious, Thanks!
Spot on! Our family loved it! I actually had it on my burger and tater tots!
I just made a half recipe of this. And thought it was great! I’ve only eaten at Chick Fil-A twice. But really liked that sauce. Mine looked a little different and that probably depends on the bbq sauce you use. I did not add lemon juice because it didn’t sound appealing. But I can see how it could brighten the flavor a bit as long as it’s just a little. My sauce didn’t look the same and had flecks of pepper and spices in it from the bbq sauce. But dipping oven fried chicken tenders in this is a home run! Thank you so much!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Paulette. Thanks for the 5 stars.
The recipe is fantastic!!! I added a pinch of cayenne pepper, regular paprika, and a teaspoon of liquid smoke. And to me it was a little too much mustard but other than that it made the recipe magnifico ????
Glad you were able to tweak it to your liking!
Delicious! I’m from New Zealand and became obsessed with Chick-fil-a sauce when I was in the US. Sadly we don’t have it here but I tried this recipe last night and it tastes really similar and definitely will be making again! Thank you so much!
So glad to have helped with your craving!
This tastes exactly like honey mustard. Not impressed, was hoping for something else
This really tastes just like it! I was speculative at first but it really does
Yay! So glad you decided to give it a try.
Very good, I would just recommend using a little less Dijon mustard than the recipe says
Awesome it works perfectly!
I just made this recipe. I had a little tub of the real Chick Fil A sauce with me, and did a taste comparison between the two. This is very much like the real sauce for the times I don’t have the sauce from the restaurant. I’m thrilled to have this recipe, I love this stuff!
Fantastic!
I made this exactly as described and in my opinion it tastes barely like Chick Fil A sauce.
Sorry it didn’t live up to your expectation.
Not sure where Danny got his information, about the smoke (I seriously want to know) but if you look on the ingredients list of the sauce I saw paprika and natural smoke flavor as ingredients. So I added smoked paprika Which is very cheap and found on the seasoning isle in your grocery store or in the cupboard already.
Thanks this recipe is very similar to my own, I created by looking at the ingredient list of Chick-fil-a sauce.
Chick-fil-A® Sauce ingredients from the website:
Ingredients
Soybean oil, sugar, BBQ sauce (tomato paste, corn syrup, vinegar, natural hickory smoke flavor, caramel color, spices, garlic*, onion*, natural flavor, oleoresin paprika), water, mustard (distilled vinegar, water, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika, spice, garlic*), distilled vinegar, egg yolk, salt, cider vinegar, lemon juice concentrate, mustard flour, natural flavor, xanthan gum, garlic*, calcium disodium EDTA added to protect flavor. *dehydrated.
The ingredient chic Fila uses to add the smoky taste is torullia yeast. Amazon has it. A pinch in this recipe is all it takes.
Thanks for that tip and letting me know where to get it!
Add a splash of liquid smoke, it’s the only missing piece.
looking forward to trying these, they do sound wonderful
Taste very similar to the original, I recommend adding less mustard if your not a bug mustard fan
This recipe literally changed my life. !!!! This is the perfect amount of sauce for a $1.77 bag of frozen waffle fries at Kroger.!!!!
Which is the perfect amount for 2 servings for adults like me who just want to eat a giant plate of waffle fries and chikfila sauce for dinner sometimes. I recently moved out of state far away from any chikfila. But after much desperation for a fix, I found this is literally just as good. ??? Ive been using this recipe for a while, but i literally just now made a batch and it’s sooo perfect ? I just had to come and thank the beautiful angel who posted this recipe. my waffle fries r in the toaster oven and I just want to eat this sauce with a spoon rn?? Life is good. Thank you so much for bringing this into my life.
You are so sweet! Thanks so much for coming back to let me know.
I’ve never had chic fil a but this sauce is amazing
Chick fil a is amazing!!! Between their sauce and their lemonade I have to say is my favorite…if you ever go there definitely try out their lemonade!!! It’s amazing!!
Sabrina, talkin’ about makin’ everyone happy, your Recipe is perfect, and the Kids are definitely Chick Filet Connoisseurs! We all love your Recipe, including that sauce! Now, I just need a Fry Daddy!
God bless you and your gifts, and your Family.
You are so sweet, Yvette! So glad you all love them so much.
Instead of liquid smoke, add paprika. If you read the ingredients on the sauce from the store, it’s in there.
I like to add smoked paprika, its an awesome little spice.
Mustard&honey are all we can taste.
This tastes just like chic fil a sauce and I go to chic fil a all the time, it’s important to give it time in the fridge to let the flavor come together but after that it’s incredible.
Thank you so much, Mattie!
My daughter loves chick fil a sauce and we always take home as many as we can when we go there. I’ll be sure to try this recipe very soon. I have one question though…for how many days can this sauce be refrigerated?
I’d say it should last up to 10 days in the refrigerator. I hope you all enjoy it!
Tastes almost exactly like the real stuff, and that’s with store brand products. I’m sure it’ll be even more convincing with higher quality ingredients. Delicious. Bravo.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Nathan!
Good show, good show
I made this today and thought it tasted too mustardy. What type of mayo do you use? I am wondering if type of mayo would make a difference and maybe cut yellow mustard in half?
I use Best Foods.
Does it have to be refrigerated?
Yes 🙂
Barbecue, honey mustard, & ranch (according to CFA).
I made this recipe last night. The taste was slightly off from the Chik Fil A sauce but I had cut all of the ingredients in half. I should have followed it exactly for the first try. Next time I’ll follow the recipe quantities exactly and I’ll bet it will be fabulous. Thanks for the recipe!
Just made it and it taste just like the Chik Fil A sauce. Thanks for the recipe !!
You’re welcome, Danette!
If you don’t have Dijon mustard what else can you use
Unfortunately that’s the ingredient that gives it it’s distinct flavor so there’s really no substitution that would work…so sorry.
I used spicy brown mustard once bc it was all I had. Taste fine to me.
My guests said this tastes just like the Chick Fil A sauce.
Love it! Thanks for letting me know Suzanne!
